Cake Serving Chart and the Explanation sheet from Earlene's Cakes (TX)

This is the chart that Earlene, a very experienced cake decorator and instructor in Texas uses to figure cake servings. I believe that it is much more accurate and generous than the Wilton cuttings, and I have copied the basic portions for brides here so that they can get an idea of what size and how many cakes are needed. The only parts that a bride or groom really needs to pay attention to are Column A for the pan size, column C for the servings and column E which gives you how many servings can come from a possible cake combination without the top tier since this is not included for cutting or in the price. Column F gives you the servings with the top tier for a grooms cake since they are not saved for the first anniversary.
